CLIFTON MERIDIAN LLC TO INCORPORATE UNIQUE LANDSCAPE DESIGN IN LA PERLA DEL MAR
Developer Partners with Acclaimed Landscape Architect Chris Winters
Puerto Penasco (ROCKY POINT), Mexico (December 21, 2006) – Scottsdale-based developer Clifton Meridian announced today that they have partnered with Chris Winters and Associates of Phoenix (CRW) to implement a unique landscape design on their luxury 15-story condominium community, La Perla del Mar, in Rocky Point, Mexico.
“The landscape and gardens at La Perla del Mar are designed to complement the architecture and become extensions of the living spaces of the individual units and common areas throughout the building,” said Chris Winters, President of Chris Winters and Associates. “They provide a series of outdoor rooms intended for a variety of uses that will address the unique practical and aesthetic needs of the diverse homeowners. Each space is designed to create varying levels of intimacy and privacy.”
For La Perla del Mar, Clifton Meridian has chosen to move away from the traditional kidney and oval shaped pools, fire pits and palapas. In keeping with the angular and geometric architecture of La Perla del Mar, a very linear and sleek negative edge pool at the very front of the project over looking the ocean will follow in the clean lines of the tower's design. With the front of the common area at a height of nearly 6 feet above the beach, the cool waters of this pool will truly spill over into the horizon of the Sea of Cortez. A grand fireplace with seating, and an oversized negative edge Jacuzzi will bring warmth and comfort to the edge of the main pool.
The pool itself is a series of underwater "shelves" for partially submerged lounge chairs and umbrella covered benches. A swim-up bar also marks the transition from lounge pool to an adult only lap pool that runs up the grounds towards the 15-story tower. The immediate area surrounding the lap pool will provide some seclusion and privacy from the rest of the grounds where one can sun in a grassy area or sit by yet another fireplace under a trellis covered patio.
“We chose to go against the grain with our landscape design,” said Patrick Clifton, Chairman and CEO of Clifton Meridian LLC, and developer of La Perla del Mar. “We really wanted to create a unique experience for our residents, and we feel that the design that we have chosen communicates the overall luxury and exclusivity of La Perla del Mar.”
The design of the gardens at La Perla del Mar was inspired by the great traditions of Mexican art and architecture and shaped by the physical nature of the desert environment in which they occur. The courtyard gardens of Mexico were influenced by their Moorish ancestry. “Moorish gardens, which have influenced gardens throughout arid regions of the world, were based on the underlying philosophy of Paradise,” said Winters. “Early Islamic gardens, the courtyards and sanctuaries of colonial Mexico, and contemporary Latin gardens draw on this rich tradition.” Winters jumped at the chance to work on this project in the hopes it would provide an opportunity to create gardens unique to Rocky Point and its environment.
Chris Winters & Associates collaborates with a wide range of design professionals on award winning architectural projects throughout the Southwest and abroad. The firm currently has projects in Arizona, Nevada, Mexico and Kuwait. Recent and current projects include the gardens for a new research facility for Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, the Ice House Lofts and La Placita Village in Tucson, Arizona, The new Student Services building for the UNLV campus in Las Vegas, and the design of the USS Phoenix Memorial in Phoenix, Arizona.
La Perla del Mar, Penasco’s only in-town luxury high rise, broke ground in September of this year and is slated for completion in the Summer of 2008. The 254-unit, 15-story tower will feature breathtaking views of the Sea of Cortez from the glass walls featured in each unit. Condos range from studios to three bedroom units, and La Perla del Mar will also feature two three-bedroom casitas and one four-bedroom beachfront penthouse. Condo units range in size from 764 to 3,368 square feet, while casitas will encompass 3,389 square feet. The beachfront penthouse will encompass 10,190 square feet. Condo prices range from $230,000 to $690,000, and casitas will cost approximately $750,000. Fractional ownership, with individual bank trusts, along with no-qualifying developer financing and traditional style U.S. mortgages are available in all unit styles. The development will feature an on-site concierge and property management services, a state-of-the-art fitness center, 24-hour security, a member's club, on-site restaurant, kid’s pool and underground parking for all owners. The 12th floor of La Perla del Mar will also feature an open-air pool. Condos and casitas are currently for sale.
“Our partnership with Chris Winters and Associates only further ensures that La Perla del Mar will be vastly unique to any of its neighboring developments,” said Clifton. “La Perla del Mar promises to be a truly exceptional space, and we look forward to its completion.”
